Interview with Matteo Bobbi: "In motorsport there are young high-level drivers"

In this interview, Matteo Bobbi, former top-level driver and now a sports commentator for Sky sport, tells the public about Gt Talent and talks about his experience as a special guest of our selections, in which the motto "My dream race" becomes a racing style.

Scopri il format GT Talent

As happened for many great drivers, Matteo Bobbi's debut in the world of engines took place aboard karts, which allowed him to take home great victories and satisfactions. An experience in the Minardi team in F1; the incredible adventure of the 24 Hours of Le Mans; participation in the Rolex Grand Am, with various officially powered cars by Ford and Lexus, in the USA. These are just some pieces of a first level professional history - that of Matteo Bobbi - who lived the world of motorsport to the full.

Today a sports commentator for Sky Sport, the former driver is one of the special guests of Gt Talent, the innovative format for aspiring drivers, which will give the best on the track the privilege of making his debut in an official Italian GT Cup race, at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 Challenge. In this short but intense interview, in addition to talking about our selections, he tells the public about Gt Talent and tells us what I think about the world of engines today.

Find out how the GT Talent format works to become pilots

In your career as a top-level driver you have experienced first-hand what it means to be part of teams that have made the history of engines. What do you bring with you from your experience with the Minardi team?

I bring with me the experience in a fantastic team, made up of incredible people, very talented and driven by an impressive team spirit. What I learned in those years then served to continue my career in the following stages.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is probably the most important race in the endurance world. What did you try to experience it?

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a spectacular race, certainly racing there was very nice and also in this case very constructive. I arrived there with other very important experiences such as, to give some examples, the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Spa. But I must say that actually experiencing Le Mans has an even more particular charm.

What does it mean for a driver who has been a great protagonist on the track to be part of the jury for the Gt Talent selections?

When I learned about the Gt Talent project, I immediately understood that it would be very nice for me to be part of it. After having spent most of my life behind a wheel, in fact, being part of a project that aims to offer a talent the chance to race is something very stimulating.

What do you think of the Castelletto di Branduzzo circuit where the last Gt Talent selection took place?

It is a slow but technical circuit, which allowed the best participants to bring out the technique applied to driving in a strong way.

One last question, as a commentator and TV correspondent, how do you see the world of engines, not just that of F1, today in Italy?

I believe motorsport is having a great time in general, not just in F1 but in all dimensions. The level of young drivers is very high, this is because young people arrive better prepared from all points of view. I am convinced that there are many level categories that offer pilots ideas to become real professionals!
